'An Interpretation of Dreams' is a body of work that explores the links between reality and the world we see when our dreams begin. After reading Sigmund Freud’s most famous work entitled ‘The Interpretation of Dreams’, I began to realise that the dreams we have are often connected to our fears and compulsions in everyday life. My work combines narratives, colours, and compositions that work together to create an overall mood of suspense and mystery. My work is heavily influenced by the paintings of Dutch Masters such as Johannes Vermeer and Pieter De Hoogh. To me, the genre of staged photography can be as evocative and inspiring as any painting. Both forms of art have been made from a preconceived vision with the purpose to tell a story. With specific set design and dead-pan poses, I seek to take the viewer on a visual journey that resonates with some and holds beauty with others. This body of work has been shot with a large format camera on colour negative film and has been lit with an full range of lighting techniques.
